 Below and on the following pages are examples of teams that previoulsy advanced from the First Round.

After five weeks of disciplined case work in the First Round, over 350 participating teams from across North America, Europe, and Asia have contributed to our most competitive pool of case submissions to date. The finalist teams distinguished themselves with their ability to successfully apply fundamental corporate financial analysis and financial modeling skills to the challenging valuation case presented to them in the First Round.

Chinese University of Hong Kong

An & Lee consists of third and fourth year students from Chinese University of Hong Kong. Anthony is a forth year student majoring in general business and an architecture photographer. Iris is a third year global economics and finance student, and she is also a great lover of Model United Nations. Charlie and Sophie are both third year quantitative finance students, and they are also active leaders in Toastmaster Club. Among its four members, An & Lee takes pride in owning a diverse portfolio of professional experience in investment banking, asset management, consulting and central bank operations, which is believed to help the team thoroughly navigate the complexity of investment banking industry. Having genuine passion for corporate finance and bloods in emerging markets, An & Lee looks forward to joining the competition and learn from other teams as well as industry leaders.

University of British Columbia

Bank of Brothers is comprised of third and fourth year students at UBC. Originally from South Korea, each member has diverse educational background in Finance, Accounting and Economics. All team members have experience in Korean military service, as well as work experience in varied industries. Sung No Yoon is a fourth year business student majoring in finance. He passed the CFA Level II exam in July 2014. He has previously worked as a summer analyst at CB Richard Ellis (CBRE) and Shinhan Khmer Bank. Ryan Whang is a fourth year student majoring in economics. He passed the CFA Level II exam in July 2014 as well. Ryan’s profound insight in macroeconomics and finance serve as a valuable asset to the team. Hanbi Park is a third year business student majoring in International Business and Transportation and Logistics. He has previous work experience as a summer analyst with Nemo Partners, a major strategy consulting group in Korea. Taylor Kim is a third year business student majoring in Accounting whose strength in financial statement analysis serve as a complementary skill to the team.

Bank on Rotman comprises of four passionate students in their final year of the Rotman Commerce program at the University of Toronto, each specializing in Finance & Economics. [From left to Right] Anas worked for the valuation control teams for equity and credit derivatives at TD Securities this past summer. Previously, he was a rotational intern at Barclays Capital working for their treasury and corporate banking departments. Kirtpal spent the previous two summers as a Financial Modeling & Analysis Intern as part of the BMO Student Internship Program. Throughout the school year, he works as a part-time lab assistant at the Rotman Financial Research & Trading Lab. Catherine interned as a summer analyst in Citigroup's Toronto office in the Financial Institutions Group where she will return full-time upon graduation. Sami Tabbara has experience in investment banking, sales and trading and wealth management working in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Saudi Arabia with Jefferies and Deutsche Bank. In his spare time he enjoys managing his personal portfolio and traveling.

The Fighting Irish team is comprised of three undergraduate students representing Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame with backgrounds in Finance. Hyun spent the last summer in a private wealth management firm in San Diego, CA where he gained experience in portfolio management. He enjoys playing soccer and learning about new cultures in his spare time. Emerson has immersed himself in Entrepreneurship, serving as the CFO at a Start-up Crowdfunding Company. He enjoys playing water polo and traveling in his spare time. Andrew spent his summer in a mutual fund analyzing the Latin American markets and monitoring different securities. He enjoys rock climbing and catching up with international affairs in his spare time.Team Fighting Irish is honored to be participating in the final round of NIBC. 

Forerunner Capital

University of Toronto Scarborough

Forerunner Capital is comprised of four B.B.A. students from the University of Toronto Scarborough’s Management Co-op program. Originally from Germany, Niclas Werthmoller is in his final year of the Specialist in Finance Co-op program. Starting in January 2015 he will join the TMT Group at Teachers’ Private Capital for his last Co-op term. He is an avid sports enthusiast, who likes challenging environments. Prateek Rao is a Co-op Associate at PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP in their Audit & Assurance Group. Prateek is the founder of Contestry, a digital contest automation service. He enjoys swimming and team sports. Thai Tran, in his final year of study, recently finished an investment banking internship at Desjardins Capital Markets, where he will be returning full time. Prior to Desjardins Capital Markets, Thai worked in the Deals team at PricewaterhouseCoopers. In his spare time he enjoys playing poker, video games and soccer. Julie Zhou, in her third year, just finished an 8 month Co-op term in the Investment Finance division at Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. Prior to Teachers', Julie worked at Scotiabank Global Banking and Markets as a Corporate Banking Analyst. In her spare time, Julie loves cooking and playing Chinese guitar. Honourable mention goes to prior teammate Harshil Dhanky, who is currently pursuing an investment banking internship at Barclays.

HEC Montreal

The FPHEC team is made up of four third year undergraduate students from HEC Montreal, specializing in finance. Gabriel Grenier is the President of HEC Montreal’s student run Investment Fund, the FPHEC. He interned as a Summer Analyst in the Investment Banking team of TD Securities, where he will start working full-time upon his graduation. Marc-Antoine Miron holds the position of Senior Portfolio Manager for the FPHEC. He interned as a Summer Analyst in the Investment Banking team of National Bank Financial Markets and will be joining the firm’s rotation program upon his graduation. Jonathan Brun holds the position of Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager for the FPHEC. He interned as a Summer Analyst in the Corporate Strategy and M&A team of BCE and will be joining Scotiabank's Investment Banking group upon his graduation. Laurent Ye is an officer of the Royal Canadian Navy. He will complete an internship at Suncor Energy in Strategy during the semester of winter 2015.

FSA Capital

Laval University

FSA Capital is comprised of four undergraduate students in Business Administration from Laval University. Sarah is a second year, who is double majoring in finance and accounting. Currently Student Ambassador at TMX Group, she will spend next summer interning in the audit division of Ernst & Young. Myriame is in her final year of the finance major and is pursuing the CFA designation. Last summer, she interned at Intact Insurance as a Surety Analyst. Olivier just graduated with a major in finance and is a CFA Level II Candidate. He spent the last two summers at National Bank Financial Wealth Management and started a three-month internship at National Bank Investments in December. Originally from Croatia, Vedran has also graduated in December 2014 with a major in finance. He is a CFA Level II Candidate and currently works for TD Bank Financial Group. FSA Capital looks forward to applying their knowledge and past competitions experience to compete with the best students across the globe.

HKU Consulting is a team of four agile-minded undergraduates from the University of Hong Kong. Apart from their first majors in international business and global management, members of HKU Consulting are also pursuing second majors in Economics, Politics, Mathematics and English Studies. The team is passionate about the financial industry, and the members have job experiences in a number of leading investment banks, including Morgan Stanley, J.P. Morgan and UBS. In the past semester, the team has also been involved with consulting initiatives, gathering and analysing raw data to formulate business strategies for start-ups, social enterprises and non-profit organizations. HKU Consulting's diversified academic background, along with their professional experience in finance and consulting, empowers the team with quantitative and qualitative problem-solving skills to analyze financial data, build financial models and provide practical recommendations for their clients. Lai is currently finishing his senior year in Hong Kong while Chan, Li and Wang are spending their junior year abroad at Yale University. The team looks forward to reuniting in Vancouver, and anticipates bringing their diverse skill-sets to compete with the best teams at NIBC.

Hong Kong Capital consists of four well-rounded undergraduates from the University of Hong Kong with a strong passion in investment banking. We come from a diverse background which differentiates our team from the others. Tim majors in Information Systems, who previously worked in JP Morgan as a summer analyst. Bon majors in International Business and Global Management, having been an intern in UBS and a research intern in Bain & Company. Enoch majors in Accounting and Finance and interned in PricewaterhouseCoopers and a boutique consulting firm while Wing Lam majors in Quantitative Finance and worked as an equity research summer analyst in Mizuho Bank. We wish to leverage on our expertise in the course of the competition and gain greater insight within the investment banking realm.

York University

Intangible Assets is a team composed of three undergraduate students in their fourth year at the Schulich School of Business, York University. Jonathan Kim is a finance and economics major who has spent his summers working at DBRS, and BMO Capital Markets. He will be joining Goldman Sachs as an equity research analyst upon graduation. Ron Burshtein is a finance and marketing major who has worked at both Deloitte and TD Securities, where he will be starting full-time in the fall as an investment banking analyst. Jawad Shujaatali is a finance major with experience at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and The Boston Consulting Group. He will be rejoining the latter as an associate upon graduation. With a diverse set of backgrounds, the team brings an original perspective to the competition, which defines their competitive advantage, and their namesake - intangible. 

Lion Capital Advisors

Columbia University

Lion Capital Advisors consists of four undergraduate students from Columbia University with backgrounds in Financial Economics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. Wina is currently a sophomore with prior experience at the Bank of China and Yulan Capital. She is planning on interning at Deutsche Bank this summer. Dayalan is a sophomore with previous experience conducting investment research at BHR Capital, a hedge fund that specializes in distressed securities and manages special purpose vehicles for private investments in startups. Mohit, a junior, is president of Columbia’s Multicultural Association and interned this past summer with Société Générale. He also has previous experience in investment banking and private equity. Grant, a senior, worked this past summer in Credit Suisse’s Technology, Media, and Telecommunications investment banking coverage group in New York City and will be returning upon graduation. All members of the team are currently also partners and analysts in Lion Fund Capital Management, Columbia’s undergraduate student-run, value-oriented investment fund. Lion Capital Advisors is honored to have the opportunity to compete with and learn from top teams around the world at NIBC 2015.

McGill Capital Management is comprised of four second year undergraduate students representing the Desautels Faculty of Management at McGill University. Roland Lau is a finance student who has worked previously at a boutique investment bank and a hedge fund based out of Hong Kong. Nolan Lypka is a finance student hailing from Saskatchewan who spent his last summer in energy sales at DNE Resources and is actively involved with the McGill Investment Club and the Association of Intercollegiate Investment Clubs. Tony Ren is a finance and economics student who has worked at RBC since the age of 15 and has recently started as a hedge fund analyst with Synergis Capital Management. Deven Sanon is a finance and economics student heavily involved with campus politics as well as the McGill Investment Club. McGill Capital Management attributes their success to their passion for finance and relentless pursuit of self –education.

Queen's University

 

MGM Grand is a team of four undergraduate students from Queen’s University.  Michael Lang is a dual-degree student in commerce and math with summer investment banking experience working at RBC Capital Markets. Michael Karp is completing a dual-degree in commerce and computer science, and has experience working at both National Bank and Canaccord Genuity, the latter of which he will be returning full-time. Matthew Reeves is a commerce student and executive member of Queen’s University’s Limestone Capital. He recently completed the summer associate program at The Boston Consulting Group and will be returning full-time. Alexander Banh is a dual-degree student in commerce and economics, and has investment banking and private equity experience working at Canaccord Genuity and PSP Investments. He will be working at BMO Capital Markets following his final semester at Queen’s.

Mustang Capital Partners II is composed of four 4th year students from Western University’s Ivey Business School. Moses spent a summer at Moelis & Company in Los Angeles, and will be joining Evercore in New York full-time. Last summer, Kevin worked at Silver Lake Partners in Menlo Park and will be returning as a full-time analyst. Matt also worked at Silver Lake Partners in Menlo Park and will be joining Evercore in New York full-time. Steven interned as a summer analyst in Morgan Stanley’s Toronto office, and will be joining Moelis & Company in Los Angeles full-time. Mustang Capital Partners II is looking forward to the opportunity to compete alongside teams from participating business schools in Vancouver.

Raptor Capital

Desautels Faculty of Management
McGill University

Raptor Capital is comprised of four undergraduate sutdents representing McGill University. As members of the Honours Investments Management program, Colton Dick, Jeremy Kertzer, Xavier Le Sieur and Belal Yassine help manage a student-run investment management firm, Desautels Capital Management, with a ~$3 million AUM. This past summer, Colton interened at CPP Investment Boards Private Investments gruop and will be rturning to Toronto for a full-time position. Jeremy worked as a summer investment banking analyst at RBC and he plans to return to the Calgary office as a full-time analyst in August. Xavier gained valuable experience during his investment banking internship at Bank of America Merrill Lynch and he will be returning for a full-time position next summer. As an investment banking summer analyst with Mergrs and Acquisitions group at RBC, Belal worked on several high-profile transactions and plans to return as a full-time analyst next August. Raptor Capital aims to leverage the team's diverse expertise and backgrounds to compete with the top teams from across the world.

RCFA is the very organization that brought together 4 Rotman Commerce students who are passionate about the field of finance. Team RCFA consists of 2 fourth year and 2 third year U of T students. Ryan Sima is a fourth year finance and economics specialist at U of T. He has competed a summer Investment Banking internship with RBC Capital Markets, and he will be returning as a full-time Investment Banking Analyst in 2015. Jeff Wang is a fourth year finance and economics specialist at U of T. He joined the Equitable Bank as a summer finance student, and he will be joining the CPP Investment Board as a full-time Rotational Analyst in 2015. Anna Yin is a third year accounting specialist at U of T with a passion in the field of finance. She has participated and placed in a variety of case competition both on a national and international level. Jerry Wang is a third year finance and economics specialist at U of T. He has completed a variety of internships, including a corporate development internship last summer, and he is looking to pursue a career in investment banking.

Team Stern IAG is composed of four final year students at from New York University. The team represents an international collection of students that share an interest in investment banking. All four students have experience at different internships across Wall St over the course of their undergraduate career. Stephen most recently interned in Barclays’ Equity Research department covering Consumer Financial companies. Following his graduation in May, he will be returning to the firm. Ryan, Ryan, and Patrick all spent their previous summer at Evercore Partners in New York. They all plan to return to the firm as well. The team looks forward to the competition and the entirety of the conference.

The Bronx Bankers represent Fordham University's Gabelli School of Business in New York City. The team is made up of three seniors studying a combination of finance, accounting, and economics. All three teammates have consistently pursued careers in investment banking throughout their college careers. Peder Gram, currently studying applied accounting and finance, and Blake Rodriguez, currently studying finance and economics, will be joining the leveraged finance team at Bank of America Merrill Lynch upon graduation. Nicholas LaRosa, currently studying finance, will join the Industrials Investment Banking group at RBC Capital Markets upon graduation. With the combination of their past experiences and entrepreneurial spirits, the team hopes to represent their school and their city well as they take on some of the top schools around the world.

The WhitePebble Group consists of third and fourth year students in the Applied Investment Management program at Marquette University. Alex is a finance and business economics major in his fourth year of undergraduate studies. His past experiences include working as a private debt and equity summer analyst at Northwestern Mutual Capital and as an industrial engineering intern at Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. Clermond is a finance and business economics major in his third year of undergraduate studies. His past experiences include working as a Corporate and Investment Banking summer analyst with Citigroup and as a Wealth Management Intern at Legacy Wealth Management. Paul is a third year finance and accounting student. His past experience includes working as a finance intern at Landaas & Company, an investment advisory firm. He also co-founded a mobile application development company, Fade, LLC. Blake is a fourth year finance and business economics student. He interned as a debt capital markets summer analyst at New Oak Capital and as a finance intern at Boston Scientific. Having worked together in the past on several financial projects, the group looks forward to bringing their diverse experiences to NIBC this year.

The four pillars holding up Trump Capital are the four passionate, McGill University Finance students who also have a variety of buy-side experiences. Anna is in her final year studying Finance and Strategy. Anna interned as an Infrastructure Investment Analyst at PSP Investments in Montreal over the past summer. Wen is also in her final year, completing a major in Finance. She worked as an Analyst at Crystalline Management, a Montreal based hedge fund last summer as well as part-time throughout the year. Fiona is currently double majoring in Finance and Accounting, expecting to graduate in December 2015. Last summer, she worked as a research assistant at tPlus Technology, a small hedge fund in New York. Ethan is completing a Joint-Honours degree in Economics and Finance. He interned at Virage Capital and National Bank Financial in his previous two summers.

UWFTW is representing the University of Waterloo. Krishna is a fourth-year Mathematics student with experience in sales & trading and asset management; he will be joining Goldman Sachs following graduation. Helen Lu is a fourth-year Mathematics/Business double-degree student with experience in investment banking and investment research; she will be joining Citigroup following graduation. Haotian Qin is a fourth-year Mathematics student with experience in investment banking and private equity; he will be joining Goldman Sachs following graduation. Tiffany Chung is a fourth-year Accounting and Finance student with experience in investment banking and private equity; she most recently interned with RBC Capital Markets.

VCN Capital Partners is comprised of three undergraduate seniors at Universidad de los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. Javier Valenzuela is majoring in Industrial Engineering and Computer Engineering. He has experience in a local investment banking boutique and has previously interned in Citigroup’s Energy, Power and Public Sector Group in Bogotá. Gabriel Navas is majoring in Industrial Engineering and has previously worked in business development for a company in the automation industry in Germany. Santiago Camacho is majoring in Industrial Engineering and is currently a member of the board of directors in the Finance Club of Universidad de los Andes.

Waterloo Gold consists of fourth year students from the School of Accounting and Finance at the University of Waterloo. Kevin Chen, studying Computing and Financial Management, has experience as a Staff Accountant at KPMG. Rebecca Yao, studying Accounting and Financial Management, has worked previously as an Investment Banking Analyst at TD Securities in the Financial Institutions Group. William Ye, studying Accounting and Financial Management, has most recently completed a work term as an Investment Analyst at G3 Capital, a hedge fund based in Toronto. Kevin Yu, studying Mathematics and Chartered Accountancy, has experience as an Investment Banking Analyst at BMO Capital Markets in the Media & Communications group. All members of Waterloo Gold look forward to representing the University of Waterloo in the final round of the competition.
